Symphony “Kūkai” is a powerful and moving musical tribute to the extraordinary life of Master Kūkai (774–835)—a visionary Buddhist monk, spiritual teacher, and cultural ambassador between China and Japan.
Composed by the renowned Chinese composer Zou Ye and completed in 2023, this symphony blends Eastern aesthetics with Western orchestration, vividly capturing the essence of Kūkai’s spiritual pilgrimage and enduring legacy.

Following its critically acclaimed performances in Kyoto, Tokyo, and Lanzhou, the Oceania premiere was proudly held in Auckland Town Hall on 24 January 2025, earning enthusiastic praise from both audiences and critics.
